7 Claims who Jesus is:
a. Bread of Life
b. Door
c. Good Shepherd
d. Resurrection
e. Way, truth and life
f. Vine
g. Light of the World

One of the symbols of Christmas is the light. It uplifts the spirit, brightens a day and makes people smile. On the other hand, darkness is the absence of visible light. It only adds blackness.

In science, a Black Hole known in the universe. It eats stars, and even light. Also, it expands and grows. The relative heat of it is twice the heat of the sun. This is the reality that there is ultimate darkness present in the universe.

Darkness also means depravity. In the Bible, it is described to us the devil. Satan controls the darkness. Hell is real and Satan’s goal is to destroy lives.

However, darkness is not just seen in outer space or other places. More of it is seen in us, sinners. The devil placed darkness in our hearts. He wanted us to sin. He wanted us to feel hopeless.

We desperately need light. Christ was born to bring light upon us. He didn’t say that he was one of the light. He claimed that He’s the One and Only Light we need. When He said ‘I am the light’, he also meant that He is life. Jesus came to rescue us from hopelessness. He became the source of light. Without Him, we are forever hopeless. We have no life.

V. 46 Life is given to those who believe in Him.

V. 44-49 God is light. He came to rescue us from the coming judgment. We will be then judged on how we accepted the light.

The Bible describes three kinds of people
A. Those who saw the light yet didn’t believe (v 37)

Do we believe in Christ? Have we accepted Him in our lives?

B. Those who believed in Christ yet failed to shine among men (V 42)

They are also known as Silent followers. They knew God yet resisted to share their faith. Their lives do not reflect God’s light.

As said in the Bible, they will face judgment.

C. Those who saw the light and do God’s commands (v 47)
These are the people who believe and share their faith. They will not face judgment. They will be saved.

Which of the three kinds of man do we belong?

The light came for us. He was born during the first Christmas. We are called as inheritors of His glorious light.

You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cannot be hidden. People do not light a lamp and put it under a basket but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good deeds and give honor to your Father in heaven.
-Matthew 5:16

He came for us despite our sins. He loved us and chose to die for us just to save us from our sins.
Let us accept and follow the Light.

He is the reason of our joy, hope and love. Happy Birthday, Jesus!
