The Blessings of Surrender

Text: Matthew 16: 24-27

If there is one thing for us to trend that is the hardcore follower lifestyle.

Generation Congregation’s Mission statement:
To lead the youth to become hardcore followers of Jesus Christ

The believer just believes but a follower has a commitment.

1. Being a follower of Christ
God chose us. It is a privilege to be a part of his Kingdom, of his family and to have a relationship with Him.

“Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to become my follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”
-Matthew 16:24

A. Denying oneself
It means surrendering our wrong motives, selfishness, everything in our lives for us to be a true follower of Christ.
There are blessings when we turn down sins. Get ready. We must not lean on our own understanding. Jesus must be first and everything else afar be second.

B. Taking up one’s Cross
It means suffering for the sake of Christ.
What have we suffered in order for us to stay faithful with the Lord?
Do we bear the cross? We therein follow Christ, who bears it before us, bears it for us and so bears it from us.

C. Following Him
There are times that we must know when to say no. We are only obligated to Christ and not to this world. Jesus should always be first. We must follow Christ in all instances of holiness and obedience.

“But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”
-Mark 10:31

2. Eternal Assurance
Are we willing to lay our life down for Jesus?

“For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”
-Matthew 16:25

Remember: Assurance is better than insurance.

Access yourself: Do I know where am I going if I die?
Is there anything better than that? There is nothing and no one worth one’s soul.

The world vs the soul: Where am I investing in?
What shall we gain in exchange of our souls? Once we lose our souls, we lose it forever.

3. The Reward of Christ

“For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done.”
-Matthew 16:27

What have we done? Have we given up our lives? Our vices, sins, everything?

Young people, we have to wake up! Repent.
We must make sure that we are assured in Him.

Sadly, most of us live as if Christ is not yet coming. We demonstrate a lifestyle far from the hardcore follower lifestyle should be. The best thing for us to do is to prepare for that day, His coming. As we wait for that glorious day, we must deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him.

Be reminded.

Which will one prefer?

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of heaven – only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.”
-Matthew 7:21

Eternal life is at stake. May we not be denied on that day. Instead, let us pray that the fruit of our obedience to His Word be recognized.

“His master answered, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful in a few things. I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master.'”
-Matthew 25:21

Will we endure til the end?
