Text: Matthew 10:16-22
The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.
Before, early church was related to persecution, and poverty. But today, prosperity, and popularity are married to church. Personality is even a basis. Sadly, the essence of the church declines. We tend to see that such place is only a structure, a religious place.
Getting out of the Comfort Zone
Ask yourself: Do the common problems, and the things that keep us pre-occupied and those who consume our time become answers to our problems?
“I am sending you out like sheep surrounded by wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.”
The disciples knew that they need to follow Jesus. But having only 12 of them to fulfill this calling was never enough to harvest. We should also respond to this calling.
Yet, the world calls us underdogs, weak and useless. But in the book of Matthew, we are likened to sheep surrounded by wolves. (The sheep represent weaknesses while the wolves mean troubles. )
And, we are reminded: For us not to be an underdog, we must be as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves.
1. Ready or not, just be ready. V. 17-18
We should always ready ourselves. Be on guard.
Everyone experiences problems. But problems will come and go. We should be prepared to face them, still. We know that we are facing struggles because we actually care with the situation. As long as we’re ready and on guard, we will overcome any problem.
2. We will have what we don’t have. v.19-20
Do I want to be a part of the bigger ministry God is offering?
If we have the desire, God will provide the need. Think of your friends, relative, love ones and your neighbors who haven’t known or accepted Christ. Share the Gospel to them. This generation needs Jesus. And it is a must.
3. The Underdogs will rise until the end V. 22
All men will indeed hate us. We will face persecution. But time will come, people will also see us as a channel of God’s love, a prayer warrior, an encourager.
Remember: God never promised us an easy life, but He promised as a worthy one. There will be persecutions along our Christian walk but as long as we are ready, we will rise til the end.
