Former Red Warrior David Boycie Zamar takes the coaching helm as he calls for the shots for the University of the East this second round.
According to UE’s UAAP Board member and Assistant Physical Education Director Rodrigo Roque, Boycie Zamar will do the coaching duties for the rest of the UE games this season.
The decision which only came up yesterday started to trend at social networks as queries regarding Red Warriors’ Jerry Codinera replacement was true.
Early this morning, the former PBA star confirmed the appointment through a SMS.
“Good day! Yes, I am now appointed Sports Consultant for UE,” said Codinera. “Cheers to the UE Red Warriors. God bless us all.”
Roque also affirmed that Codinera was named UE’s sports consultant and may not be seen leading the Warriors on the team’s future games.
“Jerry Codinera is temporarily replaced for the second round due to his busyness on another job,” Roque added.
It was remembered that Codinera faced a barely-breathing season this first round ending at 1-6 and a 3-11 record last year.
Meanwhile, the appointment of UE former coach Boycie Zamar as the Red Warriors’ mentor remains only approved for this season.
The multi-titled coach who also played with teammates Jerry Codinera and Allan Caidic led UE to 2 UAAP championship titles in 1984 and 1985. He also mentored PBA stars and former King Warriors James Yap, Paul Artadi, Ronald Tubid, KG Canaleta, Paulo Hubalde, Robert Labagala, Philip Butel and Mark Pingris during his coaching career with his alma mater.
