Cobra not to be seen in action at PBA D-League

Cobra Energy Drink Ironmen will be taking a leave of absence in the Philippine Basketball Association Developmental League’s Foundation Cup reportedly to rebuild its team status.

The Jerry Codinera-mentored squad faced struggles and difficulties on court as the team failed to impose good rhythm and game plan during the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup.

Despite the presence of NCAA standout John Nimes, the Ironmen ended the league out of the playoff race.

In the team’s last game versus PC Gilmore, the Ironmen swallowed a 64-73 mark even with JR Sumido and Nimes keeping the Ironmen in the game.

Sumido ignited a 13-4 run while Nimes fired four three-pointers in the second period.

Meanwhile, defending champion NLEX opened its title defense against Big Chill as Blackwater fought against Pacific Pipes last Tuesday at the San Juan Arena.

New entrants Cagayan Rising Suns and Erase Plantcenta who enlisted for the three-month-long tournament are expected to step up as Cagayan starts their campaign against Eraso on March 20.

Alvin Pua is set to call the shots for the Cagayan Rising Suns as Erase Plantcenta will be headed by Yong Garcia.

However, together with the Ironmen, PC Gilmore and DUB Unlimited will be skipping the tournament for a team overhaul. Freego Jeans, on the other hand, is said to prioritize Adamson University’s campaign in preparation for UAAP season 75.
