What does it mean to guard one’s heart?
The human heart’s problem is that it has become a plague of sin.
Jeremiah 17: 9 – The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?
The heart is indeed unstable when it comes to its emotions. Hence, we should not follow our heart, all the way.
It can deceive us in the following:
When not armed, it can ruin either our testimony, or our walk with the Lord.
Love is not blind. It is just the heart that goes crazy.
When the heart says, “you can maintain that closeness.” It is actually uttering you can’t.
Song of Solomon 8:4 – Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires.
The heart will make one believe that he’s under control when really, he has lost it.
1 Timothy 6:10 – For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
God wants us to own money, and not to be owned by it. He always remind us, instead, of our commitment with Him. It is not money that this life can find satisfaction. It is only through Him. Remember, it is not God who must adjust with our time, we are. To Him, commitment is a must.
The Satanic Bible of Anton Lavey says, ‘Do what thou wilt.’
Yet, to us, Christians, we shout, ‘Let God’s will be done.’
Before the evil comes:
a. Guard our Heart
Proverbs 4:23 – Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
Guard it diligently – with prayer, and with a partner (double team).
Get help with a defense. Ecclesiastes 4:12 – Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
b. Trust the Lord with all of your Heart (100%)
Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
Like in a race, our life should be driven by the best driver of all – Jesus.
c. Love the Lord with all of your Heart (100%)
Follow the greatest commandment of all. Keep the heart in full.
If the heart is messed up or broken, let Him fix it. Give it up to Jesus. A surgery will hurt but God will give us the best solution of all.
Ezekiel 36: 26-27 – I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
